William Rodriguez, Chris Hartigan, and Glenn Cross were runner-ups in their respective weight classes, and Francis Palumbo placed 3rd, as the Huskies finished 4th as a team at this year's District 21 Tournament.
The four will next be in action on Wednesday night in the opening round of the 2012 Region 6 Tournament at the Pine Belt Arena in Toms River.

The Huskies return a ton of experience and have their top returners conveniently spread throughout the lineup that features over 20 wrestlers who saw varsity action in 2011.
With three District medal winners returning, the upper half of the lineup will be a strength for Matawan. Senior Francis Palumbo won 29 matches splitting between 215 and heavyweight last year. He'll once again move around at 220 and heavy for matchup purposes. Junior Matt Cross was the District 21 champion at 171 a year ago and will be at 170 in 2012, but look for him to see action at 182 as well in the duals. Chris Hartigan had a terrific freshman year, finishing with 18 wins and a 2nd place medal at the Districts.
The bottom half of the lineup has five wrestlers returning who had double digit win totals in 2011. Among them are junior Mike Sansone who registered 17 wins at 103 and will be back at 106 this year, and senior Steve Varsanyi who won 18 bouts last season and figures to split time at 138 & 145. There are ten other wrestlers in the lower half that saw action last year, and along with some promising freshmen, gives the Huskies plenty of lineup options this season.
For a Group 2 school, the Huskies have had some very good numbers in the room over the last six seasons. This will help them a great deal as they have some openings left with the graduation of Patrick O'Donnell, Tommy Dillon, Dan Salib, and Andre Hodge who combined for nearly 90 wins in 2011. This team always works hard and is never an easy out for anyone. They'll once again be near the top of the Division and will push their fair share of guys into the Regions.
Wrestler To Watch - (Sr) Francis Palumbo
After seeing limited action in his first two seasons, Palumbo impressed greatly in his first year as a starter for Matawan winning 29 matches, placing 2nd at Districts, and finishing 5th/6th at the Regions. He'll be one of the favorites to medal at Regions this year whether he's at 220 or heavyweight.

William Rodriguez, Chris Hartigan, and Glenn Cross were runner-ups in their respective weight classes, and Francis Palumbo placed 3rd, as the Huskies finished 4th as a team at this year's District 21 Tournament.
The four will next be in action on Wednesday night in the opening round of the 2012 Region 6 Tournament at the Pine Belt Arena in Toms River.

The Huskies return a ton of experience and have their top returners conveniently spread throughout the lineup that features over 20 wrestlers who saw varsity action in 2011.
With three District medal winners returning, the upper half of the lineup will be a strength for Matawan. Senior Francis Palumbo won 29 matches splitting between 215 and heavyweight last year. He'll once again move around at 220 and heavy for matchup purposes. Junior Matt Cross was the District 21 champion at 171 a year ago and will be at 170 in 2012, but look for him to see action at 182 as well in the duals. Chris Hartigan had a terrific freshman year, finishing with 18 wins and a 2nd place medal at the Districts.
The bottom half of the lineup has five wrestlers returning who had double digit win totals in 2011. Among them are junior Mike Sansone who registered 17 wins at 103 and will be back at 106 this year, and senior Steve Varsanyi who won 18 bouts last season and figures to split time at 138 & 145. There are ten other wrestlers in the lower half that saw action last year, and along with some promising freshmen, gives the Huskies plenty of lineup options this season.
For a Group 2 school, the Huskies have had some very good numbers in the room over the last six seasons. This will help them a great deal as they have some openings left with the graduation of Patrick O'Donnell, Tommy Dillon, Dan Salib, and Andre Hodge who combined for nearly 90 wins in 2011. This team always works hard and is never an easy out for anyone. They'll once again be near the top of the Division and will push their fair share of guys into the Regions.
Wrestler To Watch - (Sr) Francis Palumbo
After seeing limited action in his first two seasons, Palumbo impressed greatly in his first year as a starter for Matawan winning 29 matches, placing 2nd at Districts, and finishing 5th/6th at the Regions. He'll be one of the favorites to medal at Regions this year whether he's at 220 or heavyweight.
